ST ANN, Jamaica (JIS) – Superintendent of Police in charge of St Ann, Wayne Cameron, says the force will be relentless in the fight against crime in the parish, particularly murders.

He gave the assurance at a community meeting held on yesterday at the Orange Hill Pentecostal Church in Brown’s Town.

While overall crime in St Ann has decreased by 10 per cent, the parish has seen an increase in murders, with 31 incidents since the start of the year. There were five murders in the Brown’s Town area compared to one for the same period last year.

Among the incidents was the murder of three-year-old Nevalesia Campbell of Orange Hill, which sparked national outrage.

Superintendent Cameron commended the residents for their cooperation and support to the police in the investigation of the crime.

“We need to come together as a community and let the healing process begin… . I just want to assure you… that we are giving this the best attention that we possibly can as law-enforcement officers,” he said.

Cameron also urged residents to seek the support of the police in resolving disputes.

Also addressing the community meeting were representatives of the Child Development Agency (CDA), the Victim support Unit as well as officers from the Community Safety and Security Unit.
